The lockdown was initiated after school administrators learned of a threat of gun violence written in a bathroom stall.
ARLINGTON, Va. — Police are investigating after a school in Arlington County was placed on lockdown Friday due to what police are calling a "written threat."
The Arlington County Police Department is investigating the threat at Gunston Middle School, located at 2700 S Lang Street in Arlington, and says no injuries have been reported.
The lockdown was initiated after school administrators learned of a threat of gun violence written in a bathroom stall.
In a letter to students and families, Arlington Public Schools confirmed the lockdown was activated out of an abundance of caution. "We are actively responding to the situation and collaborating with emergency responders," the letter says.
All students and staff were safe in the building and police investigated.
School leaders asked parents to stay where they are and watch for updates as the situation changes via email and social media.
Hours later, Alexandria Public Schools (APS) said police were helping with a controlled dismissal of Gunston Middle School. Police were urged to email APS for more information regarding dismissal.
No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made.
