Police investigating possible human remains found behind DC apartment building

DC Police were called after workers discovered possible human remains behind a building in the 4300 block of Brooks Street NE.

WASHINGTON — DC Police homicide detectives are investigating after possible human remains were discovered Friday morning behind a Ward 7 apartment building.

Officers were called to the 4300 block of Brooks Street NE around 11:45 a.m. Friday on a report of remains discovered by workers. They arrived and were directed to the rear of a residential building where they located the remains.

The residence is located at the intersection of Brooks Street NE and 4th Street NE, across the street from Smothers Elementary School. 

Police said the age and sex of the decedent couldn’t be determined on scene and no other details were immediately available. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was called to respond to the scene and was expected to make a determination as to the cause and manner of death following an examination. 

It was not immediately clear whether foul play was suspected. DC Police homicide detectives investigate all deaths in the District.
