HAGERSTOWN, Md. — A portion of a Maryland interstate was closed Friday after a tractor-trailer hauling liquid asphalt overturned.
According to the Washington County Division of Emergency Services, the northbound lanes of Interstate 81 are closed.
"The incident has caused significant disruptions, and the closure is expected to last for an extended period of time," emergency services said.

Emergency crews are working to clear the wreckage and manage the spilled asphalt. Drivers should seek alternate routes of travel as there is no word on when the lanes will reopen.
Officials have not released any information regarding what happened to cause the tractor-trailer to overturn.
