Protesters block traffic near White House, multiple streets closed by police

DC Police said protesters were blocking the intersection of 16th and H Streets NW near Lafayette Square.

WASHINGTON — DC Police said multiple streets near the White House were temporarily closed Tuesday evening due to protest activity in the area.

The department posted on social media around 8:30 p.m. that protesters were blocking the intersection at 16th Street and H Street NW, just north of the White House and Lafayette Square. As a result, traffic was affected on a number of other streets in the area:

  • 17th Street and H Street, NW No traffic west
  • 17th Street and K Street, NW (E/S park) No traffic south
  • 16th Street and K Street, NW No traffic south
  • 15th Street and K Street, NW (W/S of park) No traffic south
  • 15th Street and I Street, NW No traffic west
  • I Street and Vermont Avenue, NW No traffic south
  • 16th Street and I Street, NW No traffic south
  • I Street and Connecticut Avenue, NW No traffic south
  • H Street and Connecticut Avenue, NW No traffic east
  • 15th Street and H Street, NW No traffic west (counterflow)
