U.S. Congressman Eric Swalwell has signed on to executive produce Rohit Karn Batra’s “The Gun on Second Street.” Rumer Willis and Tom Arnold will appear in the film. Additional casting is ongoing.

The film follows two Pittsburgh police officers, who are partners and best friends. They are called to examine a domestic violence dispute on Second Street, which escalates to a violent scuffle as Officer TJ Meadows accidentally shoots and kills his partner, Officer Kevin Cooper, with his backup gun. Years later, no longer a cop and traumatized by the experience, TJ moves back to Pittsburgh and finds his way to Kevin’s widow, Kacie.

Batra is producing with Guy J. Louthan of Ransom Films. Swalwell will serve as an executive producer alongside Rikin Shah. This is believed to be the first time a sitting congressman is set to executive produce a film.

“I was raised in a law enforcement family. My dad was a cop and my brothers serve today. For seven years I worked with the best cops in the world as an Oakland prosecutor. I know all too well that in the blink of an eye everything can change for a police officer and their family,” said Rep. Swalwell. “’The Gun on Second Street’ aims to highlight the challenges facing police families with a wider audience – the public – and I’m eager and excited to see this film made and distributed widely.”

Swalwall wrote a book called “Endgame,” which examined the impeachment of Donald J. Trump. He has consulted for Spycraft Entertainment and appeared with Sean Penn on his Ukraine documentary, “Superpower.” Swalwall assisted with the production of the narrative feature, “Words of War.” Swalwell is also a frequent guest on CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News and has appeared on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” “The Daily Show,” “Late Night With Seth Meyers,” and “Real Time With Bill Maher.” He is also a creator and executive producer of the upcoming special “Cooking for Kamala,” with co-hosts Padma Lakshmi and Joel McHale, which will launch this Thursday.

Swalwell also recently arranged “Comics for Kamala,” a virtual rally via Zoom in support of the Vice President Kamala Harris’ White House run, which featured Jason Bateman, Jon Hamm, Kathy Griffin, and “The Gun on Second Street” star Tom Arnold making appearances.

Batra directed, wrote, and – together with Louthan – produced the international crime drama “Line of Descent” starring Academy Award-winner Brendan Fraser. Batra also won the Jury Prize at the Palm Beach International Film Festival Awards for Best Short Film for “Roundabout.
