Scorching heat forces shutdown of outdoor events in the DMV

Temperatures could feel as hot as 110 degrees on Monday.

WASHINGTON — With temperatures reaching record highs, local authorities have been left with no choice but to cancel numerous outdoor activities on Monday. 

According to recent weather reports, the ongoing heatwave poses significant health risks, prompting swift action to prevent heat-related illnesses and ensure public safety.

Cancellations in the DMV:

  • All outdoor programming, including league practices and games, is canceled July 15 between 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. in Arlington County for excessive heat.
  • Fairfax County Schools has cancelled all outdoor activities scheduled on fields and courts from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. 
  • Howard County Health Department has issued a Heat Alert. The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) has issued a Code Orange Air Quality Alert.
