Sheriff: 3 dead after car lands into quarry in Frederick County

Residents should expect heavy police and rescue crew presence.

FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. — Three people are dead after a car landed at the bottom of a quarry in Frederick County, Maryland, on Sunday, officials said.

The incident occurred on Lehigh Road and Peter Shriner Road, in Libertytown around 8:30 a.m., according to the Frederick County Sheriff's Office.

Frederick County Fire and Rescue are on the scene searching for additional occupants.

Residents should expect heavy police and rescue crew presence. 

It's unclear what led up to the crash. Police haven't released the identities of anyone involved. 

The crash remains under investigation.
