The four-day production will incorporate two local Slam poets and the Chamber dancers.
WASHINGTON — Local slam poets, musicians and dancers are coming together for four days of performances at American University's Greenberg Theatre.
"Slam! A Festival of Ballets" kicks off Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the theatre located at 4200 Wisconsin Avenue in Northwest D.C.
It features two slam poets: Drew Anderson, a hip-hop artist and former local high school science teacher, and Gayle Danley, a teaching artist who uses poetry to heal children's trauma who was also Maryland Library Association's Poet of the Year.
Eight dancers from the Chamber Dance Project will perform live with the poets together in works by four acclaimed guest choreographers.
Tickets start at $39 per person to attend a performance and can be purchased online ahead of time.
There will be a total of five performances running from Thursday until Sunday.
