State trooper hits, kills pedestrian in Anne Arundel County

Police say the woman walked into the road unexpectedly.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. — A woman is dead after being hit by a Maryland state trooper in Anne Arundel County.

The trooper was driving an unmarked state police Ford Explorer north on Solomons Island Road when a woman unexpectedly walked into the street and was hit by the car, police say. State police say the trooper immediately got out of the car and began to give first aid to the woman and called for help. The woman, who was 32 years old, was pronounced dead on the scene. The trooper was not injured.

State police responded to the crash at 7:30 p.m. Sunday night on northbound Solomons Island Road at Route 50. There is no crosswalk where she was hit. 

No information on the identities of either the woman or the state trooper has been released. 

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash and will present the investigation to the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office after it is completed. As protocol, the Maryland State Police will also conduct an administrative review of the case.
