String of robberies, carjackings lands DC man 22 years in prison

Jameson McNeil, 26, was arrested in April 2023 for committing eight robbery and carjacking offenses in DC.

WASHINGTON — After a string of violent crimes across the District in 2022 and 2023, a D.C. man has been sentenced to 22 years in prison. 

Jameson McNeil, 26, was arrested in April 2023 for committing eight robbery and carjacking offenses in Northeast, Southeast and Northwest D.C. Now, McNeil has been sentenced to 22 years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of armed carjacking and four counts of robbery. 

According to court documents, the counts were related to crimes committed in February and April 2023 and August, 2022. In many of his crimes, McNeil targeted women who were alone.

On Aug. 1, 2022, McNeil approached a woman walking alone at night in southeast DC and robbed her of her purse. 

On Feb. 7, 2023, McNeil appeared to be armed with a handgun and ordered a woman out of her car inside a parking garage in northwest D.C. He fled in her car.

Between Feb. 13 and 15, 2023, McNeil robbed three women of her property. Two were in northeast D.C., and one was in northwest.

On April 9, McNeil attempted an armed carjacking on Capitol Hill. He ran from the scene and attempted to hide under a different car, when DC Police found and apprehended him.
