The suspect had been on the run since July.
MANASSAS, Va. — Police have located and arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of a young woman in Manassas, Virginia. German Joseth Torres Lizama, 20, was arrested several states away in Massachusetts for the shooting death of Ashlin Yamileth Paz, 18. He is charged with murder and the use of a gun while committing a felony for his alleged involvement.
Lizama will remain in custody in Massachusetts until he is extradited to Virginia.
The shooting that led to Paz's death took place on July 18, near Pineview Road and Cregger Lane in Manassas. Police found Paz in a wooded area suffering from gunshot wounds, and she was pronounced dead. No other injuries or property damage were reported.
Initial investigations revealed that Lizama and Paz were known to each other, and the shooting occurred during a planned meeting between them. Although police had been searching for a 2017 blue Hyundai Elantra sports edition in connection with the case, the car was later found abandoned in Fairfax County. With Lizama now in custody, authorities are focusing on piecing together the full story behind the shooting.
The arrest marks a significant step in seeking justice for Paz. As the case moves forward, more details will emerge, and the community will be kept informed of any new developments. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Manassas Police Department.
Investigators say the shooting does not appear to be random.
