A tense hostage situation ended in an arrest early Saturday after a man held his girlfriend a a child captive after failed negotiations.
SILVER SPRING, Md. — Montgomery County Police Department officers initially responded to the residence located in the 14800 block of Melfordshire Way, in Silver Spring, around 6:40 p.m. Friday after receiving reports of a barricaded subject.
The department's Emergency Response Team was called to the scene after learning the suspect was reportedly holding his girlfriend and a child inside the home. The situation partially de-escalated when the female victim and child managed to exit the residence safely. However, the suspect remained barricaded inside alone and refused to surrender despite hours of negotiations with police crisis negotiators.

After exhausting diplomatic options, officers from the department's SWAT team entered the residence and apprehended the suspect at approximately 1:08 a.m. Saturday.
Police have not yet released the identity of the suspect or potential charges, and no injuries were reported during the incident.
