18-year-old Jaylen Suggs was 17 at the time of the murder, but he has been charged as an adult.
WASHINGTON — An 18-year-old has been arrested for a murder he committed when he was a minor.
On April 25, D.C. officers found 38-year-old Ricky Canty with multiple gunshot wounds at 12:30 a.m. on the 4500 block of Sheriff Road Northeast. Canty was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Now, four months later, the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force has arrested Jaylen Suggs for killing Canty. Suggs was 17 years old at the time of the murder, but he has been charged as an adult for first degree felony murder while armed.
Police have not said whether the two men knew each other. First degree felony murder means that it was committed intentionally to kill.
There were two other shootings that same night, but police said they do not believe they were connected.
