Joan Vassos is about to start her journey as the first-ever lead of “The Golden Bachelorette.”
On Tuesday, ABC released the full cast of 24 men searching for love with Vassos, 61. Among her suitors is Mark Anderson, who fans of the franchise may recognize as the father of Kelsey Anderson, the winner of Joey Graziadei’s heart on “The Bachelor” Season 28.
Audiences first met Vassos during Gerry Turner’s season of “The Golden Bachelor” last year. She works as a school administrator and has four kids and two grandkids. After 32 years of marriage, she was widowed. Her interests, when cast on “The Golden Bachelor,” included listening to Elton John, cooking and spending time with her dog and her family. She also said she was happiest at the beach and was looking for a man to blend her family with.
During “The Golden Bachelor,” she and Turner bonded early on but during week three, she went home to be with her daughter through a medical emergency.
“The Golden Bachelor” became ABC’s No. 1 unscripted premiere ever on Hulu and ranked as the No. 1 new reality series in its demo. Per ABC, the series has reached 43.5 million viewers. The season was filmed over four weeks last summer. The finale reached 6.1 million viewers, the biggest Bachelor Nation episode in nearly three years. The episode was followed by a wedding special, with Turner and Theresa Nist tying the knot on live television in January. The pair split three months later.
“The Bachelorette” and “The Golden Bachelorette” are produced by Warner Bros. Unscripted Television and Warner Horizon. Season 21 of “The Bachelorette,” led by Jennifer Tran, is currently airing on ABC.
