"I’ve performed with the flu. I’ll die on that stage. But there was something very complicated going on with my mind at that moment.”

You might also remember that Abel lost his voice mid-performance while on tour last fall and had to cancel the show as a result.

In a recent interview with W Magazine, Abel revealed that he believes he lost his voice — as well as forgot how to sing entirely — because of his work on The Idol.

“I had to take off the Weeknd outfit, put on Tedros’s wig, shoot with [The Idol costar Lily-Rose Depp], then go back to being The Weeknd,” he said.

Abel also provided his "theory" for why he thinks this happened. "I was playing Tedros, a character who doesn’t know how to sing,” he said.

“I may be looking too deeply into this, but it was terrifying," he stated, before saying that he'd previously never canceled a show before the night that he lost his voice.
