As we inch closer to the release of “Wicked,” set to hit theaters Nov. 22, dozens of brands are following the Yellow Brick Road to lucrative collaborations, limited-edition releases and other olive-green hued merch to celebrate the highly anticipated Broadway adaptation.

One of the best releases we’ve come across is this collector’s edition of the original novel, featuring green stained edges, a ribbon marker and an elegant foil-stamped cover. It’s now available to pre-order on Target, where it’s currently 30% off.

‘Wicked’ Collector’s Edition

The beloved bestselling novel by Gregory Maguire, the basis for the Tony Award-winning musical and upcoming film adaptation, has remained a classic since its 1995 release. Maguire is the author of the entire “Wicked” series (available in this limited-edition boxed set), which delves into the inspired inventions of L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.”

Fans have patiently awaited the musical since Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo announced their starring roles as Glinda and Elphaba, respectively, all the way back in November of 2021. But the project remained largely under wraps until this past year, with Universal finally releasing the first trailer debuting at the 2024 Super Bowl.

A prequel to “The Wizard of Oz,” “Wicked” recounts the events that happened before Dorothy followed that iconic yellow brick road and Elphaba, ostracized for her green skin, became the Wicked Witch of the West. It tells the story of the unlikely friendship (turned rivalry) of Elphaba and Glinda, who first met as classmates at Shiz University, and asks a central question: “Are people born wicked, or do they have wickedness thrust upon them?”

Jon M. Chu, the filmmaker of “Crazy Rich Asians” and “In the Heights,” is directing the two-part adaptation. The cast also includes Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Michelle Yeoh as Shiz University headmaster Madame Morrible, Ethan Slater as Boq and Bowen Yang as Pfannee.
