Tractor trailer fire on BW Parkway slows morning commute

As of 7 a.m., the crash has been cleared, but residual delays are expected.

GREENBELT, Md. — A tractor trailer fire slowed drivers in the Greenbelt area of Prince George's County Thursday morning. Residual delays are expected as of 7 a.m.

U.S. Park Police said they responded to a crash on the Baltimore Washington Parkway in the area of Powder Mill Road around 4 a.m. Police said they found a tractor trailer was on fire when they arrived on the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the crash. By the time police arrived, the truck was empty. 

Prince George's County firefighters responded to put out the fire and the driver was taken to the hospital with injuries not thought to be life threatening.

The truck has been moved to the right shoulder of MD 295 South prior to Greenbelt and traffic is getting by, but detours remain in place. Drivers are advised to expect delays and follow police direction in the area.

The cause of the crash and fire are still under investigation.
