TSA find stun gun disguised as cellphone at Washington National Airport

ARLINGTON, Va. — Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officials discovered a stun gun in a carry-on bag going through security at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) — disguised as a cellphone. 

Lisa Farbstein, a TSA spokesperson, shared photos of the stun gun that was made to look like an older model of an iPhone on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. A similar product retails for about $20 on Amazon.

"The TSA team at Reagan Airport made the right call when they removed what looks like a mobile phone from a carry-on bag," Farbstein said in her post. "Good catch by TSA and the team at DCA!" 

Stun guns and shocking devices are not allowed in carry-on baggage but they allowed in checked baggage if they are packed in a way that prevents them from accidentally discharging, according to the TSA. In D.C., Maryland and Virginia, stun guns are legal for adults to own, but there are some restrictions in place. They are not allowed everywhere in the District, including government buildings.
