🚨 There are obviously spoilers ahead for Twisters! 🚨

We've got another summer blockbuster on our hands. Twisters finally hit theaters this past weekend, and I think it's safe to say everyone is obsessed.

The movie made $80.5 million on opening weekend, beating early projections.

Twisters is the sequel to the 1996 movie Twister. This new movie follows Kate Carter (Daisy Edgar-Jones), a former storm chaser from Oklahoma who returns home to help her friend chase a series of catastrophic storms across the state in hopes of successfully finding a way to reduce their intensity.

While Kate is working with her friend, she meets Tyler Owens (Glen Powell), the leader of a "rival" storm-chasing group who just have fun and love to share their excitement for tornado wrangling with the world.

Similar to Twister, which notably featured a love story between Jo (Helen Hunt) and Bill (Bill Paxton) alongside all of the wild tornado chaos, the sequel does the exact same thing.

Unsurprisingly, Glen and Daisy have incredible chemistry as Kate and Tyler in Twisters, and everyone has loved them both on-screen and off-screen during the press tour.

Like, there is a scene in Twisters when Tyler simply smiles at Kate while she's taking a photo of a tornado, and it might be one of the most subtle romantic moments on film for me.

After Kate and Tyler survive another catastrophic tornado alongside their friends, and Kate successfully uses her solution to weaken the tornado, the movie culminates in an airport scene, which just screams rom-com.

At the end of the film, Tyler decides to run after Kate, who is returning to NYC and getting ready to report her findings and successful experiment. They stand in the airport, Kate's flight is delayed because of a storm, and they leave together.

While it's a great ending the movie, a lot of fans — myself included — couldn't help but feel that there was something missing: A KISS.

Shortly after Twisters premiered, a behind-the-scenes video showing Daisy and Glen filming the airport scene surfaced online, which showed that they actually filmed a kiss between Kate and Tyler, but it was cut from the final film.

"I think it's a Spielberg note, wasn't it?" Daisy said in a joint interview with Collider when she and Glen were asked about the final kiss not making it into the movie.

She continued, saying, "I think it stops the film feeling too cliched, actually. I think there's something really wonderful about it feeling like there's a continuation. This isn't the end of their story. They're united by their shared passion for something."

Meanwhile, Glen added that he feels this ending allows Twisters to emphasize that the focus is on Kate and her love of storm-chasing. He said, "I also think that this movie is not about them finding love. It's returning Kate to the thing that she loves, which is storm chasing. So that's what you have at the end of the movie."

He continued, saying, "They share this thing, and her passion is reinvigorated, and her sense of home is reinvigorated. I feel like a kiss would be sort of unrepresentative of the right goal at the end of the movie. And it is a good Spielberg note. It's why that kid is still in this game. It's amazing."

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Lee Isaac Chung also shared similar sentiments, saying that he actually prefers the no-kiss ending, too.

He said, "I think it's a better ending. And I think that people who want a kiss within it, they can probably assume that these guys will kiss someday. And maybe we can give them privacy for that. In a way, this ending is a means to make sure that we really wrap things up with it in a celebratory, good way."

In the same interview with EW, Daisy also added, "It felt nice and refreshing to not have to end up on that beat because what you're ending it on is two individuals who are so equal in their love and interest and intelligence and understanding of weather."

Of course, the no-kiss ending, while amazing, didn't stop fans from taking to X, formerly Twitter, to share how much they wished they actually got the kiss:

just stood up at the end of my Twisters screening and announced to everyone that they cut out the glen and daisy kiss. an angry mob has formed and we are seizing the AMC
