A late Thanksgiving means a shorter holiday season in 2024, and UPS says it wants to get ahead of the rush by hiring 125,000 temporary workers nationwide.
WASHINGTON — Six thousand delivery jobs are up for grabs in the D.C. and Baltimore area, according to a new statement from UPS.
Both seasonal and full-time jobs are included in the hiring push from UPS as part of a nationwide campaign to add 125,000 jobs over the 2024 holiday season.
"There may be four less shopping days for the 2024 holiday season, but UPS ... will be ready," the courier service said Friday.
This year, Thanksgiving falls on Nov. 28, leaving a less than a month's crunch between Black Friday and Christmas for holiday deliveries.
In Friday's statement, the company emphasized it was expediting the hiring process by not requiring in-person interviews for 75% of the new jobs.
"Many ... receive a job offer within as little as 10 minutes," UPS officials said. UPS says it is hiring seasonal delivery drivers, driver helpers, commercial driver's license (CDL) drivers and also package handlers.
The parcel service also listed the starting hourly wage for each of the positions.
CDL and delivery drivers would start at $23 per hour, while package handlers and seasonal delivery drivers have a starting wage of $21 per hour.
DC's minimum wage is $17.50 an hour, while Maryland has a minimum wage of $15 per hour.
Other major companies making a holiday hiring push include the retail giant Target, which said Monday that it plans to add 100,000 seasonal jobs nationwide.
