Team USA rowing ended a drought in the event that's lasted more than half a century.
WASHINGTON — The United States has rowed its way to a gold medal in Paris after winning the men's four on Thursday, beating out New Zealand by less than a second for first.
It's the first time Team USA has won the men's four event since the 1960 Games in Rome, 64 years ago.
The rowing team dominated from the start of the 2,000-meter race, and managed to hold off a last-minute push by New Zealand to end with a 5:49:03 time, less than a second ahead of the island nation. Great Britain took bronze.
The U.S. team, made up of Michael Grady, Nick Mead, Justin Best and Liam Corrigan, was visibly emotional on the podium as they accepted their gold.
It was also the first rowing gold medal for any U.S. Olympians in eight years.
