MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — A Verizon worker died by electrocution in Montgomery County on Tuesday, Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service said.
Just before noon, the fire department was dispatched to help with a person who was hurt at a worksite in rural Montgomery County.
When first responders arrived to the 200 block of Ashton Road, the located a Verizon employee inside the bucket that extends off the truck – which they said was making contact with the power lines.
Crews were called to deenergize the power lines so that rescuers could help the person.
Once they were able to get to the worker, the fire department pronounced him dead at the scene.
The fire department said they are turning the worker's death over to police for investigation.
Traffic was closed in both directions on Ashton Road between Ligon Lane and New Hampshire Avenue.
The worker has not yet been identified.
