Rain will be with us through most of the day on Monday.

WASHINGTON — It's gray and gloomy to start the week with clouds and showers on Monday. We've issued a Weather Impact Alert.

What: Weather Impact Alert for showers and rain Monday.

When: Key timing: all day Monday, off and on.

Impact: Steady rain may cause slow commutes. Wet on the walk to school, work, running errands, dog walks, etc.

Need:  You'll need an umbrella and rain gear to stay dry.

Wet weather will kick off the week with cloudy skies and showers on Monday. Expect rain to last "off and on" all day. An isolated storm could mix in, but severe weather is not in the forecast, as this is a mostly rainy event.

Most of the rain will be light to moderate, with a few pockets of heavy rain. Coastal flooding around the shorelines of the DMV, including D.C., Charles, Calvert, and King George counties.

Monday will be cooler with highs near 70; some areas will be stuck in the 60s for daytime highs.

The highest risk for heavy rainfall and flooding will be near the Blue Ridge, western Maryland, West Virginia, and areas such as Front Royal, Hagerstown, and the western edge of Culpeper.

Rain chances will linger Monday night and Tuesday as well. The last bit of the rain should clear up early Wednesday morning.
