WASHINGTON — Police are investigating after an officer was shot in D.C. Wednesday evening.
Few details have been released at this time, but here is what we do know.
Officers shut down all southbound lanes along I-295 near Eastern Avenue, Northeast Wednesday just before 6 p.m.
At 6:09 p.m. DC Police tweeted that an officer was shot. The officer has since been taken to an area hospital.
Incident: MPD is working a critical incident in the area of I-295 and Eastern Avenue where an officer sustained a gunshot wound. The officer is being transported to an area hospital. We are working to gather additional information and will update as soon as possible.

"NB lanes may be blocked and diverted at a future time," police said.
There is no word on any suspect descriptions or the events leading up to the shooting. The officer's current condition is unknown.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is on scene assisting DC Police with the shooting investigation.
