"Euphoria" Actress Barbie Ferreira Is Starring In A Brand-New Romcom About A Verrrry Famous Singer, And You'll *Never* Guess Who It Is

I literally spat out my water when I learned where the movie — which is called Mile End Kicks — is set.

OKAY, HI. Are you sitting down? You better be, because I'm about to drop some MAAAAJOR news. If you're a fan of a) movies, b) '90s music stars, or c) Canadian pop culture — or all 3, like me — you're gonna wanna hear this.

Basically, a new romcom is now in production, and the story is so good, I might actually start sobbing. The film is called Mile End Kicks and it stars none other than Barbie Ferreira — you might know her from Euphoria. It also stars Devon Bostick (who was in Oppenheimer and Diary of a Wimpy Kid), Stanley Simons, and Juliette Gariépy.

Stanley Simons is best known for The Iron Claw, and Juliette is well-known for starring in a French film called Red Rooms. Both of them are also producers on the movie, too.

So, what's the plot? Well, it's not just any ol' romcom, I'll tell you that. Mile End Kicks is about a music critic who gets romantically involved with two performers in a struggling rock band (a love triangle of sorts, I presume). And things get a whole lot more complicated, because she ends up being said band's publicist. SCANDAL.

And listen to this: it's set in none other than Montreal, Canada, which is where it's currently being filmed. This brings me to the next (and the most important) part...

According to Variety, "The film aims to capture the essence of Montreal's Mile End music scene that spawned artists like Mac DeMarco, Arcade Fire and Grimes."

...a major aspect of the plot involves a Canadian-born singer who is so iconic, she has most definitely changed millions of lives. In the movie, the publicist wants to write a book about said singer, which is how she fits into the plot.

Okay, I've done enough stalling, so I'll just tell you: it's Alanis Morisette!

ARE YOU SCREAMING YET???

Now, we're not sure how much the movie will actually revolve around Alanis — and I'm guessing she probably won't be IN the movie (although I'm dreaming of a cameo, at least). But STILL. There will definitely be lots of love for Alanis and good vibes in the film, and that's the best gift we can get.

Besides, the movie has a killer production team (which actually includes Barbie Ferreira!), so we know it'll be great. It was directed and written by Chandler Levack, who also directed I Like Movies (and clearly she knows what she's doing, because if you haven't seen it, that film got a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes).

Shoutout to Chandler — what a genius.

So yeah, it's all going to be very cute and very Canadian. Let me just set the scene for you: can you imagine hearing a Mac DeMarco or Arcade Fire song in the background of a romcom set in Montreal??? It sounds magical. Like a beautiful Canadian dream.

I might be biased because I happen to LOVE Montreal, but like, who doesn't?

Although the movie is currently only in the early stages of production, I'll keep my eyes peeled for updates, and I'm also praying for a killer, Canadian soundtrack.
