STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — A 42-year-old man and his 19-year-old son were killed in a car crash in Fredericksburg, Virginia Tuesday evening. Neither of the men were wearing seatbelts, and speed is believed to have been a factor, according to police.
Stafford County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a two-car crash at the intersection of White Oak Road and Belle Plains Road Tuesday just after 7 p.m. Once on scene, the deputies found a 2005 Dodge Ram and a 1979 Ford Mustang involved in the crash.
The 19-year-old passenger of the Mustang was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, and his father, the driver of the Mustang, was taken to Mary Washington Hospital for treatment; he died of his injuries at the hospital. The only person in the Ram was also taken to Mary Washington for treatment, and is expected to recover.
The Mustang's driver was identified as Raymond Morgan Jr, and his passenger was his son, Raymond Morgan III. Both men lived in Stafford
According to deputies, it is believed that the Morgan Jr. was speeding on Belle Plains Road when he lost control of the Mustang, and swerved into oncoming traffic, hitting the Ram. Police said neither Morgan Jr. nor Morgan III were wearing seatbelts.
"While the crash is still under investigation, the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office sends its condolences to the families involved in the accident," the office of the Stafford County Sheriff posted on Facebook.
