The crash happened on Maryland Route 231 at around 10, after, according to Maryland State Police, a driver made a wide right turn into the opposing lane.

HUGHESVILLE, Md. — A Charles County woman was killed and three men were taken to the hospital, after a garbage truck overturned onto the woman's car during a triple-collision on a state highway in Hughesville on Friday night.

The crash happened on Maryland Route 231 at around 10, after, according to Maryland State Police, a driver in a Ford Mustang made a wide right turn into the opposing lane.

"A Ford Mustang ... was making a right turn from a private driveway onto Eastbound Maryland Route 231," Maryland State Police said Saturday. "... As the Ford made the right turn, the Ford entered the westbound lane."

State police investigating the crash believe that the driver inside the Kenworth-brand garbage truck had unsuccessfully tried to dodge the Ford Mustang before the muscle car crashed into the truck.

"(The garbage truck driver) took evasive measures to avoid the Ford, however the Ford collided with the Kenworth," Maryland State Police said. "This collision caused the Kenworth to rotate and overturn."

At the same time, also traveling on Route 231 was a Honda Civic, which the garbage truck then overturned onto.

Hope Duker, 23, who was driving the Honda sedan was killed in the crash.

The garbage truck operator was from Waldorf, Md. There were two men, one from from Salisbury, Md., inside the Ford Mustang. All three were hurt in the crash.

"All others involved were transported to local hospitals with serious but non life-threatening injuries," Maryland State Police said on Saturday. "Driver error is a factor in the collision."
