WASHINGTON — The National Mall buzzed with energy Tuesday as thousands of supporters gathered to rally behind Vice President Kamala Harris for one of her final stops on the campaign trail after multiple stops in key battleground states. With over 50,000 attendees expected at what was billed as Harris' "closing argument," the rally highlighted a critical moment in the upcoming election, especially as Harris found herself in a tight race against former President Donald Trump.

Lines formed around the block as Harris supporters waited for hours to get into this evening’s rally. Taneen Carvell, who arrived at 10 a.m. to secure her spot, represented the enthusiasm felt by many. Traveling from Florida, she expressed her determination to see Harris elected, emphasizing the importance of voter engagement.

“What you need to see are the people standing in line right now … making their voices heard,” Carvell said.

She said she believed that Harris’ event turnout signaled a readiness for change, urging attention to the momentum building across the country.

While some attendees bonded over their enthusiasm for keeping Harris in the White House, even exchanging friendship bracelets like at a Taylor Swift concert, others expressed disappointment at the offensive comments being thrown around this election season.

“We’ve lost the civility in this country,” said Lola Scott, referencing during Trump’s Sunday rally at Madison Square Garden. ‘We’re not kind to each other, and the hatred needs to stop.”

“If nothing else, it’s more encouraging” added Michelle Coleman. “You have to show support and keep going. I think the momentum is still there.”

As the rally unfolded, the atmosphere was electric, filled with chants and cheers from supporters eager to hear Harris speak. With the polls indicating a virtual tie between Harris and Trump, the stakes were high, and the urgency for voter participation was palpable. The rally underscored a pivotal moment in the political landscape as Harris supporters united to amplify their message ahead of the upcoming election.

Numerous road closures and parking restrictions went into effect hours ahead of the rally start, in order for security preparation, which impacted traffic throughout the entire day.
