Five individuals were apprehended Tuesday after a theft at Ace Hardware and a subsequent assault on a police officer.
FAIRFAX, Va. — The incident began when officers responded to a reported larceny at the Ace Hardware store located at 10310 Main Street on November 5 in Fairfax City. After locating the suspects in a nearby vehicle, officer attempted a routine traffic stop.
However, the situation escalated when the driver deliberately reversed the vehicle, striking and causing minor injuries to a motorcycle officer who was providing backup.
The suspects fled into Fairfax County, leading to a coordinated pursuit between Fairfax City and Fairfax County Police units. All five suspects were later apprehended.
The driver, identified as Ryan Leonard, 32, of Parkville, Maryland, faces multiple serious charges including attempted malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer, possession of narcotics, possession of a stolen firearm, and felony speeding to elude police. Police discovered Leonard was in possession of both illegal drugs and a stolen firearm at the time of his arrest.
Among the other suspects, Lyric Bowers, 28, of Halethorpe, Maryland, was found to have an outstanding warrant from Maryland for probation violation. She was charged with grand larceny in addition to the existing warrant.
The remaining suspects — Breanna Gorman Berg, 19, of Largo, Florida; Carroll Hall, 41, of Baltimore, Maryland; and Donte Clayton, 34, of no fixed address — were each charged with grand larceny.
All five suspects were transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and are being held without bond.
