Maryland task force continues crackdown on street takeovers

All of the illegal events were broken up in the span of just a few hours on Saturday night.

PIKESVILLE, Md. — Maryland's Car Rally Task Force shut down a half dozen illegal street takeovers over the course of just a few hours Saturday night across the state and in D.C. 

Maryland State Police announced the shutdowns on Wednesday.

Members of the Maryland Car Rally Task Force worked with other law enforcement agencies to shut down six car meetups throughout Prince George's and Anne Arundel counties. 

Police responded to several locations where up to 350 participants gathered in parking lots attempting to shut down intersections. Here's a breakdown of the responses seen on Saturday.

  • 11:15 p.m.: 12011 Indian Creek Court, Beltsville, MD
  • 11:30 p.m.:  4392 Nicole Drive, Lanham, MD
  • 11:50 p.m.: 6000 Columbia Park Road, Hyattsville, MD
  • 12:35 a.m.:  2060 Brentwood Road NE, DC
  • 1:01 a.m.:   2384 Brandermill Road, Gambrills, MD
  • 1:25 a.m.:   2300 Craftsman Circle, Hyattsville, MD

Two people were arrested and police even recovered a stolen Chevrolet Corvette during the weekend activities. 

Anthony Sandoval, 19, of Parkville, Maryland was charged with disorderly conduct, riot, fireworks possession without a permit and fireworks discharge without a permit. Shakari Prue, 21, of Jessup, Maryland was charged with disorderly conduct, exhibition driving and other traffic-related offenses. 

Since June of 2024, the Maryland Car Rally Task Force has focused on investigating and addressing street takeovers. The task force includes Maryland State Police, Maryland Transportation Authority Police, Baltimore City Police as well as departments in Anne  Arundel, Baltimore, Howard, Montgomery and Prince George's counties.
