WASHINGTON — On Friday, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that 125 nonprofit organizations would be awarded $25 million to expand out-of-school time programs.
These organizations offer a variety of free and low-cost programs that focus on academic achievements, performing arts, athletics, STEM, financial literacy, career preparation, and more. The grants will be issued by the Deputy Mayor for Education's Office and is estimated to provide 15,000 D.C. students with various opportunities this school year.
The District held an event at Afterschool in the City for families who wanted to learn more about the programs being offered at the Deanwood Community Center Saturday afternoon.
"These programs enhance social and emotional well-being and provide a safe and stimulating environment where our students can discover their passions, build new skills, and stay excited about learning every day" Mayor Bowser said.
"[OST programs] provides our kids with quality activities to elevate their learning beyond the classroom, setting them up for success now and in the future.” said Deputy Mayor for Education Paul Kihn.
