MPD: Teen shot outside recreation center in Northeast DC

Police say the boy shot outside the Turkey Thicket Rec Center on Friday is expected to survive.

WASHINGTON — Police are investigating after a teenage boy was shot outside the Turkey Thicket Recreational Center in Northeast, D.C. on Friday.

A call regarding the shooting came into the Metropolitan Police Department around 4:19 p.m.

Detectives say the juvenile boy was reportedly shot in the 110 block of Michigan Avenue, Northeast, outside of the rec center.

He was transported from the scene conscious and breathing. 

Investigators claim his injuries are not life-threatening. 

Police have not said how old the boy is nor identified any suspects in the shooting.

Officers are working to establish a motive in this case as well as identify possible suspects.

Police are investigating after a 15-year-old girl was shot in Laurel, Maryland Friday afternoon.

According to a tweet from the Laurel Police Department (LPD), officers were called to the 8200 block of Londonderry Court sometime before 2 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found the teen shot, according to Chief Russ Hamill. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.
