People are concerned about the crime in this shopping center and say they often stay in the house because of it.
CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. — Prince George’s County Police responded to reports of a shooting around 4:40 p.m. and found a man shot to death inside the Oriental Express restaurant.
The community is shocked after a man was killed inside Oriental Express, a Chinese restaurants that’s been on the 5200 block of Marlboro Pike for years.
“We have witnesses that we are interviewing to determine exactly what happened,” Prince George’s County Police Major Michael Ebaugh said during a press conference.
Very little information has been released surrounding this shooting. There are still a lot of unanswered questions, it’s unclear if the victim was an employee or a patron, or how many people were inside the restaurant.
People are expressing concerns because this is a busy shopping center several kids have been around, but police say, this is an isolated incident. Police also mentioned the investigation taking longer because there is a language barrier.
Meanwhile, people who live in the area or visit often are tired of the crime.
“Oh… it’s sad,” man who lives nearby, Stephon Jones said. “I was coming over here to grab food and I found out that cops had it tapped off,” Jones said.
Shortly after the shooting, another man who says, he's the owner’s neighbor stopped by to see if everything was okay.
“I see them just going out you know around 11 in the morning and they come back around 12 in the night time it’s like a family run business,” Arslen Raja said.
Even customers speak highly of the owners of the restaurant.
“I’ve been coming there for years,” Jones said. “Talk to everyone there and they’re really good people.”
They’re expressing concerns about the crime that they continue to see in this area.
“I think a month and a half ago there was a shooting right by the Popeyes which is not good for the community because we live here,” Raja said. “I hope it gets better.”
