People Are Walking Out Of "Barbie" Absolutely Wrecked, And Everyone Is Obsessed

Hello and happy post-Barbenheimer weekend to those who celebrate. If you were one of the 12.8 million people (and counting) who saw Barbie this weekend, then I probably don't need to tell you how great the movie is.

For a quick refresher, Barbie follows the self-discovery journey of a stereotypical Barbie (Margot Robbie) who travels from Barbieland to the real world.

And while the film is full of plenty of fun, cute, and hilarious moments — shout out to the supporting Barbies and also Ryan Gosling as Beach Ken — a lot of audience goers were actually shocked that it left them weeping, too.

One of the most poignant and sob-inducing scenes, of course, was the conversation Barbie has with the spirit of Ruth Handler (Rhea Perlman), the inventor of Barbie, near the end of the film.

Ruth proceeds to tell Barbie, who believes she wants to become human now, "We mothers stand still so our daughters can look back to see how far they've come." To which Barbie says, "So being human is not something I need to ask for or even want? It's just something I discover I am?

And then Ruth proceeds to show Barbie what "being human" (or, more specifically, a woman) means. A lovely montage of footage of real people plays over the heartbreakingly pretty What Was I Made For? by Billie Eilish, and it's at this point where everyone basically started to ugly cry.

Suffice to say, the scene kind of caught audiences off guard and left them absolutely WRECKED:

Although, they still had plenty of good jokes to make about it...

Will be thinking about that scene in #Barbie where she’s finally told that she doesn’t have to ask for permission to be who she wants to be or do what she wants to do and that she alone controls her life and what it looks like for a very very very long time
