LAUREL, Md. — A man was hit by an 18-wheeler while riding a scooter on the shoulder of the road early Tuesday morning in Maryland just before 3 a.m., Prince George's County Police said.
All eastbound lanes are closed as of 6 a.m. on Sandy Spring Road above the I-95 in Prince George's County after the incident. Authorities say the person was transported to a local trauma center with several severe fractures. Police have not said how old the man is.
Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash. Drivers in the area are encouraged to use alternate routes as the investigation continues. Expect delays in the area throughout the morning commute.
Sandy Spring Road has three lanes and both a left and right shoulder running over I-95 in Laurel.
The investigation is active and ongoing, according to police.
