PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — The Prince George's County School Board is expected to decide whether or not to hire lawyers to potentially sue social media companies at a meeting Thursday night.

Based on the meeting's agenda, three law firms will present what they have to offer in order to become the firm that represents the school district should it decide to sue.

According to a presentation provided beforehand, social media has caused an ever-growing mental health crisis in America.

Studies show that social media products can cause eating disorders, anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, and other serious diseases and health impacts.

The law firms involved seek to hold social media companies accountable for the cost and impact of the mental health crisis associated with youth and social media.

Those in favor of litigation say social media companies such as Meta, ByteDance, Snap, and Google reap enormous profits by targeting children.

They say Prince George’s County Public Schools have been left to bear the costs of treating students and families affected by addiction and provide additional support services to affected students.
