Someone has been charged with Chyna Crawford's murder. One year later, the DC woman remains missing

Chyna Crawford disappeared last October. Lashawn Washington is charged with her murder and remains in jail without bond, awaiting trial.

WASHINGTON — It has been one year since Chyna Crawford vanished. The 25-year old woman was last seen Oct. 23 in the 1600 block of Good Hope Road SE, according to authorities. Her family reported her missing Oct. 26, after she failed to respond to calls and text messages.

"For her not to respond to text messages, her mother started getting alarmed. Where's my child? She's not reaching out," said Crawford's aunt, Nakeisha Arrington.

Shortly after her disappearance, the case was upgraded from the missing persons unit to the major crimes unit.

For months, Crawford's family searched for answers. They passed out missing fliers and conducted their own searches for the missing 25-year old woman. In March, DC police announced an arrest in the case.

A 32-year old woman was charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and obstruction of justice. According to court records, police believe Lashawn Washington kidnapped Crawford on or about Oct. 24, with plans to rob her. Crawford's family tells WUSA9 the two were acquaintances.

Crawford's aunt says the last year has been difficult for her family.

"At this moment we're really just lost as a whole family, we're really lost," said Arrington.

Crawford is presumed dead, and despite the murder charge, her remains still have not been found. Her family says they want to bring her home to give her a proper burial.

"Where's the body? That's all we're asking for so that her mother and her father and the family can come together and do what we need to do for my niece," said Arrington.

They believe someone out there has information that can help bring Chyna home.

"There's a mother that's hurting, there's a father that's hurting, there's a whole family that's hurting. Just give us whatever you can give us," said Crawford's aunt.
