By law, winning lottery tickets in Virginia expire if not claimed within 180 days of the drawing.

KING GEORGE COUNTY, Va. — The Virginia Lottery is searching for whoever won a $50,000 Powerball prize before the ticket expires later this month.

According to Virginia Lottery, the Powerball ticket won a $50,000 prize in a March 16 drawing but no one has come forward to claim the price.

By law, winning lottery tickets in Virginia expire if not claimed within 180 days of the drawing. That means the $50,000 ticket will become worthless at 5 p.m. on September 12.

The winning ticket was purchased at a 7-Eleven along James Madison Parkway in King George. The winning numbers for that drawing were 12-23-44-57-61, and the Powerball number was 5.

The ticket matched four of the first five numbers and the Powerball number, landing on the $50,000 prize.

If the prize is not claimed, the money will go to Virginia’s Literary Fund which provides low interest loans to localities for public school construction, renovations and technology upgrades.

If you have the winning ticket, Virginia Lottery says to contact them immediately through one of the eight customer service centers. Click here for a list of locations.
