Fairfax County Police confirmed they are investigating the video, which had more than 90 million views Tuesday night.
TYSONS, Va. — A now viral video, showing what appears to be a race between a Lamborghini and a Cybertruck is under investigation by police.
On Monday, the video was posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, at 7:20 am. Since then, the video was shared by Elon Musk on the social media platform and by Tuesday night it had more than 90 million views.
It turns out, the video was recorded in Fairfax County, specifically at the intersection of Leesburg Pike and Tyco Road in Tysons. It shows the driver of a blue Lamborghini turn on to Leesburg Pike off of Tyco Road. The driver pulls up next to a Tesla Cybertruck that is stopped in the crosswalk of the intersection.
You can hear someone yell "you guys ready?" and then someone counts down, and both drivers take off down Leesburg Pike.
"First I'm seeing a blue Lamborghini like wow okay. Then I see a Cybertruck and I'm like woah," said a man named Jason as he reacted to the video.
Continuing to watch the video, he gave a little play-by-play.
"Then they're pulling up next to each other like who's gonna win. They're revving the engines up on Leesburg pike which is very dangerous, in the middle of traffic. I don't know what day this was but it's very dangerous," he said.
"They talking about racing. The Cybertruck dusts the Lamborghini though like wow," said Jason.
WUSA9 spoke to several people who live and work near the intersection. It's just steps from the Spring Hill Metro stop.
"That is so stupid," said Mia as she watched the video.
"That is so dumb, like people get in wrecks at this intersection already. There's no reason to be going faster and risk it," she added.
"It make me nervous because it risk somebody life," said a man named Joseph.
However, when WUSA9 spoke to several youngsters, with their parent's permission, the kids had a different reaction.
"I like it," said one young boy as he watched the video smiling.
"I mean they are super cool and I don't know how they go fast," said a young girl, pointing out that she really like the Lamborghini.
Those reactions, had some parents concerned.
"Since I have teenage kids, soon they'll be approaching learning how to drive and operate a vehicle. They might be even setting a bad examples for these teenagers when they start to be behind the wheel," said Maher.
He told WUSA9 while the cars are nice, this simply isn't the right place or time to show the cars off.
"I like the car. I think they probably worked hard to own it. If they want to race and enjoy their cars. I think they have all the right to do it and they can in the proper location with proper safety in place," he said.
This video appears to be one of several, that has has been recorded at the intersection, according to videos posted on this YouTube page.
Street racing is considered a form of reckless driving under Virginia law. Fairfax County Police confirmed to WUSA9 Tuesday night that they were actively investigating the video.
