Variety, Rolling Stone to Award Journalist E. Jean Carroll Truth Seeker Award at Truth Seekers Summit

Variety and Rolling Stone will honor journalist and author E. Jean Carroll with the Truth Seeker Award at this year’s Truth Seekers Summit presented by Paramount+. Carroll is an esteemed journalist whose popular “Ask E. Jean” column, published from 1993 to 2019, was one of the longest-running columns ever. Over her career, Carroll has been nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for her work with “Saturday Night Livefrom 1986-87 and “America’s Talking,” the precursor to MSNBC.  

Variety and Rolling Stone are proud to recognize her honesty and bravery over this past year fighting for truth and justice in her cases against Donald Trump. 

In 2023, Carroll sued Donald Trump for sexual assault and defamation and won. In 2024, she beat Donald Trump again, where the jury ordered him to pay Carroll $83 million for damaging her reputation. 

Additionally, director & executive producer of “Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story” & “In The Arena: Serena Williams” Gotham Chopra will join the Documentary Panel alongside already announced panelists Alex Stapleton, director of “God Save Texas”; Rahman Ali Bugg, director of “Exposing Parchman” and “Welcome to Rap City”; Nanette Burstein, director and executive producer of “Elizabeth Taylor: The Lost Tapes”; and Andrew McCarthy, director and producer of “Brats.” 

Director of “Born In Synanon” and the Emmy Award-winning “Through Our Eyes: Apart” Geeta Gandbhir joins the “True Crime Masters Tell All” panel, which also features Muta’Ali Muhammad, filmmaker, “MoviePass MovieCrash,” “Yusuf Hawkins: Storm Over Brooklyn”; Christian Hansen, cast and executive producer, “American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders”; Amara Cofer, host and co-creator, “Black Girl Gone”; Brian Knappenberger, director, “Trials of Gabriel Fernandez and Turning Point”; and Andrew Jarecki, Emmy-winning executive producer and creator, “The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst Parts 1 & 2.” 

The Truth Seeker award recognizes journalists and documentary filmmakers for their accomplishments and unwavering dedication to veracity. In 2023, Rachel Maddow, host of MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show, received the award for her journalistic achievements.
